    Rare Isopod fossil, from Taouz, Morocco. Dates to the Lower Cretaceous Period.


    The first known isopods lived in shallow seas during the Carboniferous period (Pennsylvanian epoch), approximately 300 million years ago. This fossil is in the same order as woodlice and pill bugs. As with all isopods, this fossil had a chitinous exoskeleton that was rigid and segmented.


    The matrix is 9.0 cm x 7.5 cm
