Fossil Crinoid (Scyphocrinites elegans) - Morocco - Silurian Period
Scyphocrinites elegans crinoid (Sea Lily) from Morocco. Excellent detail to this fossil, it has one repair through the middle, which is the norm for fossils from this location. The matrix surrounding the crinoid has been varnished (clear varnish) which makes the fossil stand out more.
Crinoids, such as this example, are commonly known as Sea Lilies, are marine animals in the phylum Echinodermata showing their close relations to Sea Urchins, Starfish, Brittlestars and Sea Cucumbers.
Dates to the Silurian period.
