Spicomellus Osteoderm

A Spicomellus osteoderm from the Mid Jurassic (approx. 165 million years old), collected from the El Mers III formation in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. Spicomellus is the only known ankylosaur with osteorderms directly attached to the ribs which can been seen on the underside of this piece with the honeycomb-like texture visible (see picture five).
